The social system of the Persian empire was similar to India, where it was extremely hard to move from the class you were born into. Even though slavery was explicitly frowned upon, and forbidden by Zoroastrianism, some were still taken from conquered empires. Drinking wine played a large role in Persian life, and many important decisions were dicussed and voted on while drunk.
